A Listening Ear...
A Listening Ear is an assistance warm-line and a safety net for those veterans or active duty military that have exhausted all other resources. The "Our House" Foundation's Listening Ear is listed under 'Veterans Services' in the local phone book, and we are already receiving crisis calls from families of troops deployed, families of older veterans, and family members of and recently returned veterans who are having major problems in their homes, jobs, and communities. Since its inception in January of 2008, the volume of our calls has doubled, as well as our need for active, trained volunteers.
It is a known fact that men and women in the military who are experiencing problems avoid talking to or going for any type of psychological help through the VA. According to a recent RAND Corp. study, roughly one in five soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan displays symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, putting them at a higher risk for suicide.
Please, if you are experiencing similar problems in your life, don't ever think that you are alone. We at the "Our House" Foundation will rack our brains, our hearts, and our souls in order to find and get you the assistance that you need. Currently, since we are totally dependent on Community Support, we do not possess the funding to be able to staff the line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so if you do try to contact us and cannot get in touch with someone from our organization right away, don't give up hope! We will get your message, and if we can, we will contact you as soon as possible, always with good information for you to help you along your way.
We are not a governmental organization. We are a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those who have sacrificed so much to protect freedom both near and far.
